Fulltone Obsessive Compulsive Drive (OCD) Review

Update

Fulltone has replaced the volume pot in the OCD's with a 500K pot. Basically provides a bit more midrange hump but nothing dramatically noticeable. There are a couple of people who will do this mod to older OCD's.

Basically turns the OCD from a "sweet spot" pedal into one where almost every setting sounds fantastic. More midrange will also smooth out the distortion somewhat.

You can tell if your OCD has the 500K volume pot as all units with a serial number greater than 4563 (this includes 4563) have the new volume pot.

Fulltone OCD Specs

The folks at Fulltone claim that the new OCD pedal is a amp-in-a-stompbox. With your amp one can control the amount of distortion by rolling your guitar volume back, Fulltone claims the OCD will react in a similar fashion.

"You not only lose all the touch sensitivity, but forget about those complex Harmonics. (For me) It's always been somewhat of a compromise using Overdrive pedals... until now. Ladies and Gentleman, I am proud to introduce the Fulltone OCD . I made this pedal for me, but I think you might like it too." - Fulltone

Our Fulltone OCD is on back order, word is there are 3000 Fulltone OCD's currently on backorder, once it arrives expect a full review with sound clips.

My Thoughts on the Fulltone OCD

My Fulltone OCD arrived today (5/4/2005) and I grabbed it then headed to rehearsal. Plugged the OCD into the spot where my Analogman TS9 usually sits, adjusted the volume to match the amp and left the drive and tone at 12 oclock. With the HP/LP switch set at HP the OCD belted a really nice Plexi tone through my Dean Markley RM-40DR. Sounded great jamming to Back in Black.

Keeping the settings the same we ran through a couple of songs while auditioning a singer (Dig In, Interstate Love Song, All the Small Things) and the Fulltone OCD cut through the mix nicely. For solos I pushed the OCD with my Catalinbread SCO which sounded pushed the Fulltone hard. I still need to find a nice rhythm sound that is similar to my TS9 using the OCD.

Don't forget to visit the Fulltone OCD settings.
